The Bahco Bypass Lopper P16-40 are intended for cutting live wood. The loppers are commonly used for pruning and training all sorts of evergreens, shrubs and vines.
These 16" long Bypass Loppers have a cutting blade that slides past a forged counterblade in a scissor motion, resulting in the term "bypass." The pivot bolt is offset from the natural centerline of the Bypass Lopper. This allows a slicing motion during cutting. This slicing action helps in the pruning of live wood. It also spreads the wear over a larger area of the blade allowing for an extended life.
The hook shape of the counterblade allows for a larger cutting diameter and holds the branch steady during cutting. The sap groove is a recess that lessens the contract area between the blade and counterblade, resulting in less friction and sticking.
