The Bahco P16-70 Bypass Loppers are designed to cut live wood. The loppers are commonly used for pruning and training all sorts of vines.
The cutting blade of this 28" long Bypass Lopper slides past a forged counterblade in a scissor motion, and that's where you get the term "bypass." The pivot bolt is offset from the natural centerline on the lopper. This design creates a slicing motion during cutting, assisting in the pruning of live wood and spreads wear over a larger area of the blade for longevity.
The counterblade's hook shape on the lopper allows a larger cutting diameter and holds the branch steady during cutting. The sap groove is a recess that lessens the contact area between the counterblade and the blade, resulting in less sticking.
